Summer is here! After what feels like the longest winter EVER, the weather is finally getting warmer and the days longer. Soon, the sun will shine every day and Ottawans across the city will be spending all of their time outside.
Do you love going for a picnic in the summer but hate packing up food? Greek On Wheels has you covered! With our delicious range of authentic Greek cuisine, we have something to satisfy every craving. If you’re not sure about the best spots in Ottawa to picnic, then we also have you covered there! Here are our favourite spots around town to grab a bite outside:
Rideau Canal
With the Rideau Canal stretching almost 9 kilometres through the heart of the city, you’re certainly not in short supply of picnic spots! Easily accessible by foot and by bike, the canal is always a popular spot in the summer months with runners, cyclists and tourists. Take a blanket, pick your favourite spot, and enjoy watching the boats and rowers sail by.
Hog’s Back Park
Perfect for family picnics, Hog’s Back has plenty of wide open space for your little ones to run around while you relax. The park has picnic tables and lots of trees providing shade from the sun. A short distance away are the Prince of Wales Falls – take a stroll after your meal to enjoy the beauty and majesty of nature.
Major’s Hill Park
Situated within walking distance of many popular Ottawa landmarks, such as the Byward Market, Château Laurier, Parliament Hill and the National Gallery of Canada, Major’s Hill Park is the perfect picnic spot to bring your out-of-town visitors. Enjoy a walk around the Byward Market and finish your meal with something sweet at one of the various ice cream or dessert shops!
Britannia Beach
Britannia offers picnickers the best of both worlds, with a shady grassy area directly adjacent to the sandy beach! If you’re one of those people who can’t stand getting sand everywhere, set up on the grass and let your children play on the beach or at one of the two play structures. Not far away from the beach is Beachconers, a local ice cream shop offering delicious handmade treats.
Parliament Hill
What’s more patriotic than having a picnic on the grass in front of one of Canada’s most iconic buildings? From July 9 to September 8, 2019, the Northern Lights sound and light show will be lighting up Parliament Hill. Grab your evening meal at Greek On Wheels and head on over to enjoy a stunning journey through Canada’s history!
Are you ready to get summer started? Order your Greek On Wheels by phone or online, stop by to collect your food, and then head off to your favourite picnic spot. It’s that easy!
